Travis Olson named 2016 Volunteer of the Year by the Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Portland.

Travis has been selected the 2016 Volunteer of the Year by the Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Portland!

He is a true role model in our company fully embracing our values: Clients, Team Members and Community. Not only is he one of our top producers, but he also dedications much of his free time to philanthropic work in our community.

This year, the Building Hope Gala & Auction raised just over $270,000, while the Trap Shoot raised a record-breaking $81,000.  “He has been involved with both events as a sponsor, and also volunteers on the Auction Committee.” says Nicole Bailey, Events Manager at Home Builders Foundation. “He brings amazing ideas and energy to the group, and always helps us find ways to make our events bigger and better.”

“Travis knows just about everyone in the industry, as well as having some celebrity connections. He’s always willing to make an introduction or ask for a favor on our behalf. We are so grateful to have Travis, as well as his team, partner with us to support our mission to provide safe, dignified shelter for those who need it the most.”

Join us in congratulating Travis Olson for his relentless commitment to philanthropy and his local community. We are honored to have you on our team.

Home Builders Foundation Volunteer of the Year Awards Program

“Travis Olson, part of the Olson-Waller Team at Directors Mortgage, has only been involved with Home Builders Foundation for a handful of years, but has made a significant impact on the organization. Directors Mortgage had been a consistent supporter of the Building Hope Gala & Auction, and recently nearly tripled its support of the event. Travis also volunteers on the Building Hope Committee, and supports the Trap Shoot through sponsorship. Every event that Travis is involved with is better for it, which is why he has been selected as the HBF Volunteer of the Year.”

Prepare Your Home for Fall and Winter

With summer a fading memory, now’s the time to ready your home for fall and winter’s cooler temps and unpredictable weather conditions.

1. Clear out the gutters.

Remove leaves and other debris from your drainpipe and gutters to prevent clogging. In areas with cold winters, outdoor faucets should be drained in the fall.

2. Clean the fireplace and chimney.

You can clear out ash and charred wood from the fireplace yourself, but leave the chimney cleaning to a professional. Have the chimney cleaner check the damper to ensure it can be tightly closed to prevent drafts.

3. Check the heating system.

Do a survey of your home’s heating vents to make sure they’re not blocked or covered by furniture, carpeting, or curtains. Dust vents and clean all filters. Make an appointment for an annual heating system check-up.

4. Store air conditioners.

If you have removable window air conditioners, be sure to unplug them before taking them down. Dust and clean before covering or storing.

5. Check for drafts.

Stay warm, save energy, and reduce your heating bills this fall by examining windows and doors for cracks and sealing them to prevent drafts.

6. Put up storm windows.

If you have removable screens, now’s the time to clean, store, and replace them with storm windows.

7. Ready the water heater.

Prepare for cooler weather by draining the water heater and clearing out any debris that has settled in the tank.

Get Into A Better Home With Upcoming USDA Improvements!

The USDA has announced significant cuts to both the up-front funding fee and the monthly mortgage insurance factor for loans that receive a conditional commitment from USDA on and after October 1st (when the 2017 fiscal year starts).  These changes are as follows:

  • Up-Front Funding Fee:  Currently 2.75%, will be reduced to 1.00%.
  • Monthly MI factor:  Currently .50%, will be reduced to .35%.

Borrowers will be able to save roughly $20/month for every $100,000 borrowed - which will allow for the potential for them to look at a slightly higher price range, or simply a more affordable payment.

So as you are looking to get pre-qualified and are in the market for a Rural Housing loan, make sure to take these upcoming factors into consideration as they could have a significant impact for you.

One final thing - there will be NO changes to eligible areas when fiscal year 2017 begins!

We are excited and proud to announce a three-year partnership with University of Oregon and Oregon State Athletic Departments!

The Beaver and Duck Home Team partnership allows us the usage of the UofO and OSU Home Team marks in addition to in-stadium signage, social media, radio and print advertisement.

So what exactly is the Beaver & Duck Home Team?

The goal for this partnership is to bring together three locally owned businesses that help build the communities we are proud to call home. Rounding out the first Beaver and Duck Home Team is Hayden Homes and BedMart.

The Beaver Home Team will donate $20 for each point the Beavers Football team scores at home up to $5,000 to Beavers without Borders. This program offers global service-learning experiences for student-athletes at Oregon State University.

The Duck Home Team will donate $500 for each Oregon Ducks Football Team win up to $5,000 to O Heroes.
